Supply & Demand as an Abstraction

Students build a simple supply-demand model in a spreadsheet, varying price and quantity, discovering that the model is a deliberate simplification (abstraction) of real markets.

Activity Steps
  1. Introduce the demand curve: as price rises, quantity demanded falls — but why?
  2. Students create a spreadsheet with Price (₹10 to ₹100) and Quantity Demanded (calculated by formula).
  3. Add the supply curve on the same chart.
  4. Find the equilibrium point: where do the curves intersect?
  5. Ask: what does this model not capture? (consumer psychology, advertising, weather, monopoly) — that's deliberate abstraction.
